Joseph Aaron “Double A” Allen
June 12, 1978 ~ November 3, 2025
“To know him was to love him.”
Joseph Aaron Allen, better known to his many friends as “Double A”, passed away peacefully at his home while taking a nap on Monday November 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and their cherished pets. He was 47 years old.
Aaron was born on June 12, 1978, to Samuel and Harriett Allen in Alton, IL. From the beginning, Aaron was a loving little boy who adored his parents and rarely left his mother’s side. When he was eight, they moved to Martin TN, where he attended First Baptist Church. There he spent countless hours in Sunday school (often taught by his parents), children’s choir, RA’s, bible drill, summer camps, and youth programs. His early years were filled with church musicals and productions, along with forming lifelong friendships in the Martin community. Aaron was an athlete. He played baseball during his younger years and continued his athletic journey in football throughout junior high and high school. Those “Friday Night Lights” were something he always looked forward to, proudly playing nose guard and tackle for the Westview Chargers. After graduating from Westview High School, Aaron attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he studied business and joined the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. The friendships and memories he made there remained close to his heart for the rest of his life. The Martin Police department honored Aaron for a heroic rescue of a female UT Martin student during an assault in 2004. It was at UT Martin, where he met his future wife Wendy (Sharp). From that moment on, they were inseparable. The two married on October 21, 2007, in Charleston, SC, where they went on to build a life together for more than twenty years. Aaron and Wendy shared a deep love for animals and were passionate about rescuing and caring for animals in need. Together, they performed countless “rescue missions” and provided a loving home for many animals over the years. Aaron worked as an industrial electrician where he obtained numerous certifications including a historical landmark certification which reflected his exceptional knowledge and skill. In his free time, Aaron loved nothing more than spending time with Wendy out on their boat, fishing and crabbing along the Carolina coast.
Aaron is survived by his beloved wife Wendy Allen of North Charleston, SC; his devoted parents Samuel and Harriett Allen of Martin, TN; his two younger sisters, Alisha (David) Humm of Godfrey, IL and Ashley Allen of Tega Cay, SC; his loved nephews and niece, Gavin, Aaron Preston, Beau, and Sadie Humm all of Godfrey, IL; and his grandmother Arline Ahrens of North Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law Tommy (Mary) Sharp; two sisters-in-law Tammy (Joseph) Hicks and Heather (Tim) Shutt; nephews Triston and Dylan Gray; and nieces Tea Shutt and Hailey Lay, all of Savannah TN. Aaron is preceded in death by many “fur babies” who brought him so much happiness. He is also joyfully reunited with his paternal grandparents Dewey and Eva Mae Allen of Alton, IL; his maternal grandfather Dietrich Ahrens of North Charleston, SC; and his brother-in-law Michael Sharp of Savannah, TN.
If you knew Aaron, you knew he was hilarious – probably the funniest guy you ever met. Always the entertainer, he was the life of every party and never failed to offer his sweet southern charm, a warm smile, and a firm handshake. As we remember Aaron, we are comforted by the assurance that he is now at peace in the arms of Jesus. And if the Lord allows, you can be sure Aaron will be there to welcome you home one day, with that same grin and laughter we all loved so much. But he can’t do that if you haven’t accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior. So please don’t wait – tomorrow is never promised. In true “Double A” fashion, we invite everyone to celebrate his life the way he lived it – full of laughter, love, and stories worth telling.
A Celebration of Life event will be announced at a later date where friends and family can gather to share memories of the good ol’ days with our beloved Aaron.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - West Ashley, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414, 843-722-8371.
