Albert James "Jim" Lancaster Jr., 81, of Johns Island, South Carolina, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, June 9, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, dad, Papou, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Born on May 24, 1944, in Spartanburg, SC, Jim was the son of the late Jennie Hines Lancaster and the late Albert Lancaster. He moved with his family to Gaffney, SC. He graduated from Gaffney High School in 1962. Jim was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College. He later graduated from the night school program at the Citadel in 1976.
Not long after moving to Charleston, Jim became a member of the Jaycees as well as the Masonic Lodge of Charleston. He met the love of his life while working at the Geer Drug company. It was a blind date that changed both of their paths. If you saw Jim, you also saw Brenda. Their love story was one for the history books. They were married on September 18, 1971. Once having children, he could be found with his family. He loved family time and making everything a memory. He made sure he was at every event his children were involved in.
Jim enjoyed his time working at Bridge Terminal Transport and all of the people he worked with. They became a part of his extended family. You could find him flipping burgers at the company cookout or playing on the softball team. No matter what, he always had a smile on his face and a dad joke for any occasion.
He was the best Papou his grandchildren could ever ask for. He would take them to and from school. These trips always involved stopping for tacos or a snack. He would go to school and have lunch with them or go on field trips. He lovingly became everyone's Papou. He went to their games, dance recitals, practices, performances...if it involved his grandchildren, Papou was there.
Jim put his heart into everything he did. He never met a stranger and always made a connection with everyone that crossed his path.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ava-Grace Brynn Bullard and his brother-in-law, Guy Kirby, Jr.
Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda Stanley Lancaster; daughter, Shannon Bullard; son, Albert "Trey" Lancaster (Emily); grandsons, Nolan Bullard (Anna) and Brendan Bullard; granddaughter, James Bullard; sister, Linda Kirby and her son; sister-in-law, Linda Sauls (Jack) and their children; and brother-in-law, Mitchell Stanley (Shirley) and their children.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley, followed by the memorial service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Bristol Foundation, 206 North 2100 West, Suite 202, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 thebristolfoundation.org or St. Johns Fire Department (Station 7), 1142 Main Road, Johns Island, SC 29455.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Bristol Foundation (Charleston Branch) for the care and compassion that they showed to Jim, as well as his family, in his final weeks. They were instrumental in helping the family move through a difficult journey with grace and compassion.
The family would also like to say a special thank you to St. John's Station 7 for all of their help and understanding over the last three months. Mr. Lancaster lovingly referred to them as "the boys". They were so gentle and kind every time they were called to the house.
