Alberta Claire Glassman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025 at 12:30 AM. She was born on June 11, 1938, in Paterson, New Jersey, the fifth child of Anthony and Bertha Macri.
Growing up in a large family, she shared a lifetime of memories with her siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers Tony and Sonny and her sisters Dorothy and Sis. Her youngest sister, Pat, survives her and remains a treasured link to those early family years.
On August 30, 1958, she married her childhood sweetheart, Armand B. Glassman. Their love story began in grade school and blossomed into more than six decades of marriage filled with love, laughter, and family. Together, they raised three sons: Armand P. Glassman (Cindy), Steven Glassman (Donna), and Brian Glassman (Margaret).
She was a devoted mother who managed to balance family life with a meaningful professional career as an Operating Room nurse, a role that reflected her compassion, precision, and dedication to helping others.
Her creativity flourished in the arts. An accomplished painter in acrylics and pastels, she owned and operated an art gallery in downtown Charleston, SC, from 1979 to 1982. She later formed a lasting association with the Glassell School of Art in Houston, where she studied and created for more than a decade. Her work expressed her spirit and brought beauty to those fortunate enough to experience it.
Her talents extended beyond the studio to the tennis courts, where her competitive nature and love of the game led her to win several USTA tournaments in both singles and doubles. She instilled that same love of tennis in her children and grandchildren, ensuring the game became a cherished family tradition.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband Armand, her three sons, eight grandchildren — Armand L. Glassman, Jake Glassman, Justin Conroy, Drew Conroy, Keaton Robson, Katarina Glassman, Steven R. Glassman, and Brianna Glassman — and six great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her spirit of love, creativity, and determination.
She will be remembered for her warmth, artistic talent, competitive spirit, and above all, her deep devotion to family. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org) or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - Mount Pleasant, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, 843-884-3833.
