Alice Maston
Feb 7, 1944 – Aug 29, 2026
Alice Faye Maston, 82, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 29th after a brief battle with cancer. A proud Scandinavian and a “Yooper”, she was a native of Greenland, Michigan born to the late Rudolph and Femmie Holmstrom.
Alice moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1962 just after graduating high school. She was married to the late Douglas Maston in 1969 and started her family. Alice also lived in Tulsa, OK; Greensboro, NC; Chesapeake, VA; and Savannah, GA, before making Charleston, SC her home. She loved her immediate family dearly. She loved her friends and cared deeply for those who were fortunate to be part of her life. She had a variety of interests in her life including competitive archery, baking, knitting, puzzles and a keen eye for maps. A voracious reader, Alice loved books, Reader’s Digest, and libraries. She was active for several years in the Vasa Order of America, honoring her Scandinavian heritage. Most importantly, Alice loved animals. She volunteered for the Humane Society and always had dog treats in her pocket “just in case.” She enjoyed her morning coffee and conversation over white sangria.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her brother, Floyd Holmstrom. Surviving are her children David Maston (Debbie) and Erika Maston (Jeffrey Wittig), Granddaughter, Alexis Maston (Sophie Meglio) and her sister, Shirley Baggett (Don) as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
