Alice Elizabeth Veyera, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025.
Born on August 29, 1930, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the only child of John E. and Alice M. Scanlon.
She was a substitute teacher at Orange Grove Elementary School. In addition, she was an active volunteer throughout her lifetime starting at the Florence Crittenten Home in Charleston, the American Red Cross, US Military Communities in Germany and Italy and a longtime volunteer at the Low Country Senior Center on James Island. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Nativity Catholic Church. She was an avid bridge player, a fan of the Riverdogs, and a staunch supporter of Citadel Basketball. She was a Bulldog level member of The Citadel Brigadier Foundation. Alice was a breast cancer survivor.
She is preceded in death by her mother Alice and her husband of 59 years, WWII veteran, John H. Veyera.
Alice is survived by her son, J. Stephen Veyera and his wife, Susan; daughter, Jacqueline Davis and her husband, Olin; son, David A. Veyera and his wife, Michele; and daughter, Christine Tejeda and her husband, Danny; her grandson, Ted Veyera and his wife, Elaine; granddaughter, Jennifer A. Veyera; grandson, John H.D. Veyera; granddaughter, Remmington Guthrie and her husband, Patrick; granddaughter, Elizabeth Davis; grandson, Tripp Hill and his wife, Allie; and great granddaughter, Madison L. Veyera.
There will be a private internment service for family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Share Our Suzy Lowcountry, P.O. Box1778, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29465, the American Heart Association or The Citadel Brigadier Foundation.
