Alvin Marvin Godbee, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2026.

Born September 18, 1944, in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of Esther Jay Godbee and Mary B. (Sills) Godbee. Alvin grew up in Savannah and joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating high school. He proudly served his country in Vietnam, an experience that remained an important part of his life.

Alvin spent 10 years as a part-owner of Dixie Aluminum Company in Gainesville, Georgia, and 25 years as the owner of Gainesville Printing Post. He was also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Hall County, Georgia.

Alvin loved being on or around the water. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and having fun with them. He especially loved card games, word games, and trivia games. For a large part of his life, he lived on Lake Lanier in Georgia. Whenever he could get to the beach, he enjoyed taking long walks, collecting shells, and simply relaxing near the ocean. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing pool with the guys at the Senior Center in Mount Pleasant.

Alvin will be lovingly remembered by his dear wife of 58 years, Susan Mathews Godbee. He was a devoted brother to his sister, Wanda DeVevo of Jacksonville, Florida, and brothers, Lodric Avery of Leesburg, Alabama; Harry J. Godbee (Vickie) of Pooler, Georgia; and Ronald Avery of Atlanta, Ga. He was a wonderful dad to his children, Stephanie Farris (Tad) and Laura Jarvis (Bob), of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and a beloved Paw Paw to his grandchildren, Hannah Jarvis, SarahGrace M.Rogers (Josh), Isaac Farris, Jack Jarvis, LilyFaith Farris, Noah Farris, Katie Jarvis, KatieBeth Farris, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Charles Mathews (Chris) of Huntsville, Alabama, and sister-in-law Jerry Decker (Charlie) of Mount Airy, Georgia; Brother-in-lawAlfred Kopszywa and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Alvin was preceded in death by his mother, Mary B. Sills, and his father, Esther Jay Godbee.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories of his love of the water, his adventurous spirit, his service to his country, and the many good times shared together. His love and belief in God’s care and gift of eternal life brought him great comfort in his life and continue to give comfort to his family.
