Listen to Obituary

Ann H. Danford, 79, of Johns Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on October 10, 2025. Born on May 30, 1946, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and raised in Sumter, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Lucian and Dorothy Hutchinson.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Judy Madere; her beloved son, Jay Thames; her stillborn daughter, Jennie Danford; her ex-husband, Graham Danford; and numerous cherished pets.

Ann is survived by her son Jamie Danford, his wife Kristy, and their children Noah and Kesley of James Island, South Carolina; her son Jody Thames; and her sister “Jackie” Hughes. Ann also leaves behind the family of her late son Jay: her granddaughter Jessica Dillingham and her family, including Richard and Ash; her grandson JT Thames and his family, including Jenna and Aiden; her grandson Justin Thames and his family, including Karrie, Jaylin, Jewel, Jayce, and Callen; and her daughter-in-law Nancy Thames. Her journey in life touched many people who appreciated her more than she ever realized. In addition to her immediate family, Ann leaves behind an extended family of Danford’s, Pierce’s, friends, and neighbors who loved her dearly.

Ann was an incredible soul who loved her family deeply and took pride in doing everything she could to the best of her ability. She worked hard to support and raise her three sons as a single mother in Irmo, South Carolina. Throughout her life, she looked after anyone who needed help and tended to plants and animals with passion and love. She was a well-read woman of many talents and hobbies.

Most of all, Ann absolutely loved her family. She thoroughly enjoyed spending her later years near Jamie and his family. Whether she was first in line at her grandchildren's school for pickup, attending their games, teaching them to garden, or taking them out for lunch, she was always there for them. She especially treasured her weekend visits with her adult granddaughter Jessica and sharing family meals. Her generosity, sharp wit, wonderful sense of humor, and unconditional love and support will be deeply missed.

As in her life, Ann never wanted to make a fuss. In keeping with her wishes, the family will honor Ann's request not to have a funeral service and will plan a celebration of her life at a later date.
