Barbara Marie Cobble

Barbara Marie Cobble, 74, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Medical University Hospital of South Carolina, after an illness of several months.

Born on January 5, 1949, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Marie Cobble (Jennette) and Lemuel Moore Cobble.

Barbara began her career in the accounting profession, first in Nashville, Tennessee, working for a CPA firm. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1978, and began her journey as an Auditor with several Federal agencies--Defense Audit Service, Naval Audit Service, and last with the Department of Transportation.

She had increasing responsibilities with each, and she retired as a member of the Senior Executive Service in 2005. She was a mentor and friend to many over her career.

After retirement, Barbara moved to Charleston, South Carolina, with her brother, Roy, who passed away in 2016.

In Charleston, Barbara spent time with her many friends, enjoying activities at the senior center, going to the theater, and was a beloved member of the Folly Beach Women's Bible Study.

Barbara was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1976; and she was a 1966 graduate of Bell Buckle High School, in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.

No services are planned in Charleston, but her interment will be held at a later date, when Barbara will join her mother and brother at their resting place in Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
