Following a brave battle with cancer, Barbara Marjorie McCann, 70, of Kiawah Island, SC, died Sunday, July 16, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Born in Rockville Centre, New York, she is the daughter of the late William and Johanna Grim.
Taking after her father who was a builder, Barbara was a Certified General Appraiser for many years in both Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She also spent much of her adult life as a private pastry chef where she was able to share her passion and love for baking. An avid golfer, Barbara was a member of the Governor’s Club at Kiawah Island Golf Resort and enjoyed many rounds of golf with her husband and close friends, with her favorite rounds held on the Ocean Course. Barbara shared her love of golf, the ocean, bike riding, and baking with her granddaughters. However, her main passion was her family.
Barbara married her childhood sweetheart, and they were married for 50 years. Barbara is survived by her husband, John McCann, her daughters, Mary-Margaret Anderson (Benjamin) of Forest Acres, SC and Lauren McCann of Philadelphia, PA; her son, Jonathan McCann (Amber) of Charleston, SC; her granddaughters: Holland Anderson, Johanna Anderson and Sadie McCann; her siblings: Jo Ann Grim, Carol Butler, Richard Grim (Janis) and Donald Grim (Jeanne), all of New York; and sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Thompson of New York, Katie McCambridge (George) and Sheila McCann, both of Florida. Barbara is also survived by her much-loved numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414, (843) 722-8371.
