With profound love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bruce Edward Barber, a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather, loyal friend, and proud patriot, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 67.
Born in New London, Connecticut, Bruce made his home in Goose Creek, South Carolina, where he lived most of his life - building a legacy grounded in service, love, and unwavering integrity.
Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy, embodying discipline, courage, and a deep respect for his country. After his military service, he went on to touch countless lives as a dedicated teacher and training coordinator, always eager to share knowledge and lift others up. Whether in a classroom or a conversation, Bruce had a gift for making people feel seen, capable, and inspired.
A man of many talents and boundless curiosity, Bruce found joy in reading, gardening, and exploring new places with the love of his life, his wife Cynthia "Cindy" Barber, to whom he was devoted for 43 beautiful years. He had a deep love for family gatherings, where his heart felt most full. Bruce also loved umpiring girls' fast pitch softball, staying involved in his community and cheering on young athletes.
Bruce's spirit was a powerful combination of humor, strength, compassion, and honor. He was a man who loved fiercely, stood firmly by his moral compass, and never hesitated to be the champion of his family. He was passionate about entrepreneurship and always eager to help others navigate their own paths, generously offering his wisdom and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mae Barber Deviney and Carl Barber Sr.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Barber; his children, Richard Barber (Briannah), Jessica Gongre (Dustin), and Michael Barber (Bri); and his cherished grandchildren: Haylie, Eli, Olivia, Gage, Marlow, Miles, and Rory. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Carl Barber (Jane), Karen Field (Terry), Carol Barber (Steve), and Gail Morrell (David).
He lived by the words, "You can fall down, but you have to pick yourself back up every time," a motto that he not only spoke but exemplified throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bruce's memory to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project, causes that reflect his deep patriotism and heart for service.
