Bruce Jeffery Koedding, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025.
Born on April 22, 1954, near Philadelphia, PA, Bruce was the son of Patricia Bryant Koedding and the late Henry Raymond Koedding.
Bruce grew up in Media, PA. As an adolescent, he joined the Sea Scouts and reveled in the art and navigational science of boating on the Chesapeake Bay. He attended Millersville University and achieved a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. Army ROTC snagged him on campus and he spent twenty years in the US Army, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel, Ordnance Corps. His service included 3 three-year tours in Germany. Program Manager of Federal Contracts for IBM followed; a second 20-year career.
Bruce's retirement gig upon moving to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina was shore-side Guest Services Agent for Carnival Cruise Lines. He was the "voice of Carnival - Charleston" issuing boarding instructions (along with cheesy one-liners) and controlling the flow of guests. He was the first person to greet and direct all guests returning from their cruise.
Bruce was a member and supporter of the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation's oldest patroitic-hereditary society founded in 1783 to commemorate the American Revolutionary War. Bruce's heritage stemmed from a Major in the Continental Army from the state of Massachusetts.Bruce served a term on the Planning Commission for Mt. Pleasant, was a member of Seacoast church and was involved in various mentoring and community service projects. He enjoyed traveling, boating and making people smile.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Marlene Marie Darland Koedding; mother, Patricia Bryant Koedding; sisters: Donna (Ken) Park, Patricia (Joseph) Catov and Wendy (Ken) Silverwood; brother, Tom Koedding and sister-in-law Susan Hammill; son, Christopher Koedding; daughter, Lisa (Justin) Petrone; along with granddaughters, Avery and Allaray; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society/Pancreatic Cancer.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
