Carol Merritt Wanninger, 68 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Born on August 7, 1956 in Birmingham, AL was daughter of the late Anne Merritt (Black) and David Merritt.
Even as a child, Carol was known in the family for her quick wit and love of a good one-liner. Carol was always telling stories and delivering quirky facts- accurate or not, which often brought laughter to those around her.
Carol treasured time spent with loved ones. Whether it was a holiday party or a casual dinner, she always tried to make it special - sometimes literally, like the time she brought her China to a family picnic, just wanting to make it feel a little more fancy.
Carol worked as a very successful cell phone representative, earning recognition as one of the top national sellers, before pursuing her real passion as an antiques dealer. Carol had an incredible eye for hidden treasures and a deep appreciation for historical and artistic pieces, which she developed into a unique talent for decorating. During her time in antiques, she built a collection as impressive as it was personally cherished.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, David and Ann Merritt; brother, Harry; sister, Mary Ellen; and beloved husband, Robert Wanninger.
Carol is survived by her brother, David; brother, Mark; son, Will; step-daughter, Dana; step-daughter, Paige; grandson, Liam; granddaughter, Karen; and grandson, Eric.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date in Birmingham, AL where family and friends can gather to share memories and celebrate her vibrant spirit.
