Catherine Healy Smith, 76, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
To know her is to love her. She was born on December 27, 1947, in New York, NY, the daughter of the late Rosemary Sanko Healy and Thomas P. Healy. She grew up one of four sisters in Chevy Chase, MD, and is forever known to light up a room with her one-of-a-kind personality. She will always be remembered for bringing warmth, laughter, and joy wherever she went.
Katie loved people and throughout her life touched the lives of others. She worked as a conference/event planner for Cigna where she met her husband, Malcolm, and some of her dearest friends. In her retirement, she was always involved in some kind of volunteer work with a desire to make this world a better place. She enjoyed her time volunteering through Hospice as well as mentoring. She cherished her gardens and had quite the green thumb. Katie’s style and grace were seen in every event she planned and every house she made a home. She adored being a mom, not only to her own children, but to their friends, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Katie had many gifts: a stunning smile, generosity, unlimited kindness, a spirited sense of humor, and the ability to draw out the best in others. Her unwavering strength and courage were inspiring. A beautiful woman in every possible way.
Katie is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Healy; her mother, Rosemary Healy; and her sisters, Mary Pamela Landry and Sarah Healy.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Malcolm Smith; daughter, Sarah Young (Ronald Savage, Jr.) of CT; daughter, Julia Smith of CT; son, Chase Smith (Amanda) Smith of FL; and grandchildren" Brianna Savage (22), Ronny Savage (18), Colton Smith (11), and Penelope Smith (5); and her sister, Ann Healy of VA.
