Cecil Brown, Jr.

As the sun set over his beloved lowcountry Thursday evening, Cecil "Peewee" Brown, Jr. of Charleston, SC, left to see his loved ones who pre-deceased him.  A self-admitted lover of all things clean and neat, Heaven will provide him the ultimate comfort and joy.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at McAlister-Smith, followed by burial at Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Road.

Peewee was born on October 29, 1947, in Charleston, SC, the son of Mildred Crosby Brown and the late Cecil Brown.  He was educated at James Island schools and was the retired owner of Brown's Roofing.  A self-taught craftsman with tin and slate, Peewee was often lowered on the steepest roofs in Charleston, rope tied around his feet and lowered, to repair the ancient slate and tin.  He was fearless and was greatly respected for his ability to repair and replace the roof tops of the city he loved so much.

Peewee was known for his signature tan and in his youth, was often found on the garage rooftop surrounded by fans, capturing the rays.  His stunning blue eyes and pearly white teeth, along with his lean physique, was complemented by his huge heart and award-winning grin. He was always happy to see you.

Peewee enjoyed the boxing ring in his early years, achieving amateur status and was a part of the Charleston boxing community.  He received his love for fishing honestly, and found great joy fishing with friends throughout the lowcountry.

He loved the Lord and spoke of Him often.  He went so far as to have chosen a casket depicting the Last Supper in its design.

HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN was his favorite book, found on his night stand.

He is survived by his mother, Mildred Crosby Brown of Charleston; brother, Johnny Brown of Burgaw, NC and Cathy Banuelos (Bob) of Aptos, CA.  He was predeceased by his father, Cecil Brown Sr.; brother, Phil Brown; brother, Henry "Porky" Brown; sister, Doris Ann Brown; and daughter, Angel.

As a self-proclaimed romantic, Peewee leaves behind four sons, nine daughters and numerous grandchildren.
