The funeral service for Christine Louise Cogswell, 81, of Annapolis, MD, formerly of Chapin, SC, will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. in the main sanctuary of Chapin Presbyterian Church. The family will greet visitors beginning one hour before the service. Mrs. Cogswell will be interred at 2:00 p.m. on the same day at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Reverend Dan Ratchford will officiate.

Christine passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Annapolis. She was the widow of Col. Roger Linn Cogswell (USAF). She was born on May 22, 1944, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Levi Johnson and Barbara (Baer) Johnson. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana.

Christine was primarily at a Stay at Home Mom (SAHM), but she took a few jobs along the way. She taught 3rd grade from 1968 – 1970 while her husband, Roger, was deployed to Viet Nam on two different tours. Later in life while daughter Gina was in high school, she worked at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC, while the family was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base.

Husband Roger was career military, so Christine was a military wife from 1967 – 1994. They had eight moves in their military career, including stations in Israel and Germany, with their ninth move taking them to Chapin where they built their retirement home on Lake Murray.

Christine and Roger were members of various churches throughout the course of their marriage. She was always active in the Officers Wives Club, book clubs, and Christian outreach programs whenever possible. Christine was a voracious reader and a steadfast choir member who found great joy in singing not only in church but around the house. She was very creative and spent time knitting, painting and crafting of all types.

Christine is survived by her son, Mitchell L. Cogswell and his wife, Fawn Cogswell, and their children, Colton Levi Cogswell and Makenzie Cogswell, from Bloomington Illinois, and her daughter, Gina L. Hopkins and her husband, Douglas Hopkins, and their children Ethan Hopkins, Evelyn Hopkins, and Amelia Hopkins, from Annapolis, Maryland. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Couden, of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Besides her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Roger Linn Cogswell, who passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Leigh Johnson of San Diego, California, and a sister, Mary Jo Grimm, of British Columbia, Canada.
