Clifton Bruce Newby Jr., 84, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, with his devoted daughter Christina by his side.

Born on January 10, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina, Bruce was the beloved son of Mary Elizabeth Newby and C. Bruce Newby Sr. He devoted his life to his family, his faith, and a lifelong calling to ministry and counseling. Through his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering desire to help others, he touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Bruce graduated from Dreher High School and later attended Columbia Bible College, where he met the love of his life, Glenda. He served as a pastor and psychologist for more than 50 years, faithfully ministering to and counseling individuals and families throughout his career. In his younger years, Bruce enjoyed running, and throughout his life he found joy in writing poetry and never passed up a good dessert. Those who knew him will remember his genuine passion for helping others, his caring heart, and his dedication to guiding people through life's challenges.

Above all else, Bruce cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, nephew, and friend whose love, guidance, and kindness will be deeply missed.

Bruce is survived by his children, Andrew Newby and Christie Ausderau; his grandchildren, Nathan Ausderau and Madison Ausderau; his beloved grandpups, Prada, Darcy, and Wendell; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenda Newby, and his parents, C. Bruce Newby Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Newby.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, followed by a private burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Bruce's memory.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Prisma Hospice and the caregivers of Home Instead for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Bruce's final days.

Bruce's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
