Cody Michael Hynes, 33, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Born on March 18, 1992 in Stamford, Connecticut, he was the son of Esther Chapman Hynes and the late Edward Hynes.
Cody was America's little brother. Everyone who met him wanted to adopt him into their family. And everyone he met, he wanted to adopt into his family. He was generous to a fault. Cody wanted to help everyone he loved in every way that he could. He would make you mad, or make you laugh, or give you a back crushing hug, but either way, he left you with a smile. He loved his friends, he loved his family, and he loved God. Most of all, he loved his little boys and his wife.
He was always on the go and loved to be outdoors. He wanted to be with people, have adventures, and see all the places. He loved the ocean, everything about it. He earned a degree in Marine Technology so that he could spend his life on the water. Whether it was on a beach, a boat, or a surfboard, that is where he wanted to be.
Cody was involved in working with youth, telling them about Jesus and pouring into their lives. He met them where they were and never judged them. He was a friend, "dad", and mentor to countless young lives. He opened his home to kids who needed a place to stay or just somewhere to be for a while.
Cody didn't just love, he loved well. He left an impression and made you feel important. He didn't let you listen to negative voices. He spoke life into you. He eased anxiety and brought peace, and then said something stupid and made you laugh. He was the kindest, craziest person you ever met. He always thought he was too much for people, when the truth is he was just what they needed.
Cody is preceded in death by his father, Edward Hynes, and his maternal grandmother, Mama C.
Cody is survived by his wife, Abbey Hynes; children, Finn and Rhett; brother, Brendan Hynes (Steph); nieces, Zoe and June; mother, Esther Hynes; brother in law, Zach Kitchens (Vikki); nieces, Emery and Wren; brother in law, Nathan Kitchens (Mia); and in laws, Rollie and Donna Carole Kitchens; along with many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek. The service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, in Goose Creek.
