Conrad Dean Hodges, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and their six devoted daughters on February 14, 2026.
Born on September 6, 1928, in Lakeland, Florida, Conrad was the son of the late Guy Conrad Hodges and Roxie Lee Turner Hodges. He lived a long and remarkable life defined by dedication to his family, faith, friends, and craft.
Conrad was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 75 loving years of marriage with his wife, Virginia “Ginny” DuBose Picquet Hodges. Together they built a family that stands as his greatest legacy.
He is survived by his beloved wife; his daughters, Constance Deane Wilson (Charley) of Charleston, Ginnie Lee Monferdini (John) of Ridgeway, Paula Costello (Bruce) of Lugoff, Sandra Hurley (Harry) of Charleston, Pamela Riggs (Bryan) of Charleston, and RoxAnn Stalvey (Miles) of Charleston; his daughter-in-law, Onesta Hodges of Moncks Corner; his sister, Jean Hodges Power of Pennsylvania; his sister-in-law, Edna Felder; and many nieces and nephews. He is also cherished by 20 grandchildren and more than 30 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his best friend and son, Bruce Harold Hodges.
Conrad worked as a sheet metal worker and was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 399 for 79 years where he is the longest tenured member in the history of this chapter. His work ethic, skill, and loyalty to his trade were a testament to his character and commitment.
He was a faithful, active member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he devoted his Sundays to greeting all who attended making sure they felt loved and welcomed. As a life member of Omar Shriners, he dedicated many hours driving children to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC, participating in parades, and fundraising for the organization. Additionally, he was a life member of A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Ancient Free Masons, the James Island Yacht Club, and the United Methodist Men’s Club. Throughout his life, he valued fellowship, service, and community.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons: Chaz Wilson; Cris Costello; John Conrad Monferdini; Kenneth Crosby; John Paul Monferdini, II; and R. M. “Tradd” Stalvey, III.
