Craig Wayne Hopkins

Craig Wayne Hopkins of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away on August 10th, 2026 at the age of 51.

Craig was born on August 7th, 1975 in Sumter, South Carolina. He had a wonderful childhood filled with love and laughter growing up in Hartsville, South Carolina. He graduated from Hartsville High School in 1993 where he played both baseball and football. During his peewee football years, Craig gained the nickname Pac-Man by his coaches and teammates for his speed and athletic ability. That monicker stuck with him throughout his athletic career and he was still affectionately known as “Pac” by many friends and former teammates to this day... Craig remained an avid Hartsville Red Fox fan for his entire life.

Craig went on to college at The University of South Carolina where he graduated from the Darla Moore School of Business in 1998. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity where he certainly enjoyed the social aspect of college life and made some of his most cherished and lifelong friendships.

Craig was an avid sports fan for his entire life, most especially he was a fan of anything and everything Gamecocks. His blood truly ran garnet and black.

Craig was preceded in death by his loving parents, Wayne and Kathy Hopkins of Hartsville, in addition to his grandparents Anthon and Dorothy Berry of Nebraska and Willard and Rae Hopkins of Bishopville. He is survived by his daughters Mckenzie Grace and Sydney Claire, both of Mount Pleasant and both whom he loved with his whole heart. He is also survived by his sister Kim (Billy) Newsome of Columbia and his cherished nieces Ann (Jordan) Foster of Charleston and Emily Newsome of Columbia. In addition, Craig is leaving behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many dear friends with a special shout out to his best friend of 51 years, Jeffrey Newsome.

Craig was a beautiful person inside and out who was loved by many. We will dearly miss his sense of humor, his ability to make others laugh, his big laugh and the joy he brought to so many. Our hearts are broken but we take comfort that he is now reunited with his parents in Heaven. We love you and we will miss you until we are all reunited one day. Rest in Peace PAC Man.
