Dorothy “Dale” Ciuffreda, 92, a resident of Seabrook Island South Carolina since 2014 and previously of Annapolis Maryland and Duck Key Florida for many years prior, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children on her 92 nd birthday, after a brief illness.
Born November 1, 1934 in Washington, DC, Dale spent most of her early years living in Washington, DC. She graduated from Northwestern High School, Adelphi Maryland in 1952.
Dale grew up around horses as her father, David, owned a riding stable. Dale’s horse was a beautiful Paint, Duchess. At the stables, Dale was introduced to the love of her life, Dom. They were married in 1952. Dale and Dom were together for 54 years, until Dom’s passing in October 2007.
During their early years of marriage, Dale followed Dom to Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Benning, Georgia when he was enlisted in the US Army. After Dom was discharged from active duty they returned to Maryland where Dom and his father started their company, and, Dom and Dale began a family.
Dale was a devoted wife and mother, doting on her children and working part time at her husband’s company. Dale loved to cook and bake. Dale and Dom spent their leisure time enjoying cookouts, vacations, holiday events, fun get togethers, bowling leagues and weekend beach trips with their family and friends.
Dale and Dom entered retirement when the family company sold in 1996. They spent their winters in Duck Key, FL. Dom convinced Dale that they needed a Honda Gold Wing so that they could travel out West, Canada, wherever with the wind in their hair. Who knew Dale would love the “bikers’ life” beginning in her 60s?
Dale adored her grandchildren: Matt, Allyn, Sam and Dominic. She enjoyed their visits and overnights, trips to Disney World and their school events and activities. The loved shared was plentiful and mutual. Dale was blessed with 2 beautiful great grandchildren, the twins, Sanibel and Beau, who’s visits she thoroughly enjoyed.
Surviving Dale are her 3 children: Son, David of Dunkirk, MD and Daughters, Dana of St. Petersburg, FL and Donna of Seabrook Island, SC, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her siblings, Dawn and Barry. Her sister, Judy, passed away in 2024.
