David Debruhl Cobb, 85, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. David was born January 25, 1940 in McCormick, SC. David was the son of Alice Rucia Cobb and Archie Debruhl Cobb. David is survived by his wife, Mickie Miller Cobb and his daughter Britt Cobb, both of Columbia.
David was a United States Marine from 1964-1969. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and was an English Major. The man knew his stuff when it came to English. David ran a successful carpet company for many years and as some people might remember, he called himself the Remnant King. He ran ads in The State Paper with a comical picture of himself as the Remnant King. If you knew David you knew he was a funny guy and was always making people laugh. He was also a reasonable man who found humor in some of the shenanigans his daughter would get into. But he was also a teacher. He believed in teaching moments and used them a lot over the years.
David was also an avid bike rider. He rode the streets of Columbia for over 50 years. He was always healthy and worked out at the YMCA many days a week for most of his life. He was still working out at the YMCA and riding his now, stationary bike up until his passing. David loved gardening and reading.
David will be missed by his family and friends. He was a loving soul with a great sense of humor. He will be missed but never forgotten for the husband, father, and friend that he was to so many. The family will have a private service later.
Memorials may be made to the Richland County Sheriff’s Foundation K-9 Unit or a charity of your choice.
