David Alan Pitcher

David Alan Pitcher, 69 years old, of Johns Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Born on October 18, 1956, in Redwood, California, David was the son of the late Betty Jean and Eugene Clinton Pitcher. He moved with his family to Chamblee, Georgia, in his youth and graduated from Marist School in Atlanta. David continued his education at Auburn University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management and met his wife, Kathy, with whom he shared 47 happy years. He was an independent business owner most of his life in Atlanta before he retired and relocated to Johns Island.

David was a man of many hobbies, constantly learning new skills and capable of building anything. He was a model train enthusiast, building intricate N scale railroad layouts and hosting operating sessions with his fellow hobbyists. David was a naturally talented cook who enjoyed preparing both simple and gourmet meals for his family with detailed menus. In recent years, he took great pride in perfecting his sourdough bread baking. David also enjoyed being outdoors and joined his son on many Boy Scout campouts; more recently, he spent time outdoors riding his bike, hiking, swimming, or enjoying a glass of wine with a nice meal al fresco. He collected board games and strategy games of all kinds and instilled a love of tabletop games in his kids and grandkids.

David is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Spring Scholefield. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey Pitcher and his wife, Jill, and Melissa Warren and her husband, Michael; four grandsons, Henry, Joseph, Thomas, and John Henry; brothers, Gene (Terri) and Mike (Candy); and eight nieces and nephews.

Per David’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston or your favorite charity.
