David Lawrence Poitras

David "Dave" Lawrence Poitras, 71, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Born on September 28, 1953, in Providence, RI, Dave was the son of the late Florence Harrington Poitras and the late Henry Poitras. 

Dave worked at General Dynamics in many capacities finishing his career of 34 years as a Planner in the Nuclear Pipe Division. His job took him from North Kingstown, RI to Groton, CT and finally where he retired in Newport News, VA.

In retirement, Dave always said how lucky he was to have discovered James Island in Charleston, SC. He purchased a home on a small lake on James Island and spent countless nights on his porch enjoying the view. He sent pictures of nature, floods, hurricanes and even an occasional snow storm all from his backyard.Dave loved being with his family and had many family functions at his home in Foster, RI. He was a loving and caring brother and uncle and will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Florence Poitras.

Dave is survived by his brother, Stephen Poitras (Debra); sister, Denise Grandchamp; and nephews. Raymond Grandchamp (Laurie) and Michael Grandchamp (Jill), as well as six great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held privately.
