David W Shaw

David W. Shaw, 61, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Sunday, February 26,
2023.

He was born on August 2, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts, and settled in South
Carolina in 2006.

David is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Shaw, his step-son, Brian Mahoney, and
step-grandchildren, Katherine Mahoney, Nicholas Mahoney, and Erin Mahoney.

David was an author, publishing five narrative non-fiction books about events that
are part of America’s naval history. He received critical acclaim from Book-of-the-
Month Club naming The Sea Shall Embrace Them as the best non-fiction, and
People Magazine naming it one of the three best books of that year. Daring the
Sea and Flying Cloud were also published in Germany, and America’s Victory is
also an audiobook. His last book was Seawolf of the Confederacy.

Over the years, he contributed articles to numerous boating publications, was
Developmental Editor for many books, and Ghostwriter for several others.
