Deirdre A. (Keenan) Shoffner passed away on May 6, 2026 as a result of a brief illness.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Larry L. Shoffner of Summerville, SC. She is survived by her son, Brian P. Shoffner and daughter, Erin K. Shoffner; her brother James Keenan of Boulder, CO; and sisters Theresa Keenan and Grace Ingrim of Seattle, WA and Anchorage, AK respectively.

Ms. Shoffner was born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of James W. Keenan and Eileen (Hanley) Keenan. As the daughter of a U.S. Army officer, she grew up in Japan and Germany as well in various locations within the U.S. She become a diploma graduate of the Washington Hospital Center in 1966 and joined the U.S. Navy Corps as a registered nurse. Her assignments included the Navy hospitals in Jacksonville, Fl and Agana, Guam. Ms. Shoffner left the Navy in 1970 and began a long and distinguished career in trauma and emergency nursing in civilian hospitals in Honolulu, Hi, Alexandria, VA and Chapel Hill, NC. While stationed with her husband at the American Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria, she acted as the Embassy nurse tending American diplomatic personnel as well as those of other Western embassies.

A celebration of Ms. Shoffner's life will be held from 9am - 10:30 on May 14, 2026 at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home at 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414. Inurnment will follow at the Beaufort National Military Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. Located at 1601 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
