Delores Lopez

Delores Weatherford Lopez, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025. 

Born on June 29, 1936, in Charleston, SC, Delores was the daughter of the late Mildred Weatherford (Beylotte) and St. Elmo Weatherford.

Delores was a proud mother of four and a woman of deep compassion and strength. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to Children’s Dentistry, where she lovingly cared for countless children, offering not just comfort during appointments, but genuine kindness that left a lasting impact on their lives. She found joy in shopping and had a natural talent for working with detail and creativity—expressed both as a professional hairdresser and as a skilled seamstress. Whether she was styling hair or sewing something special, Delores poured care and thoughtfulness into everything she did. Her radiant soul and deeply empathetic spirit touched everyone who knew her. Delores was a person of strong faith, which grounded and guided her throughout her life. Her love, grace, and warmth will be remembered always.

Delores is preceded in death by her father, St. Elmo Weatherford; her mother, Mildred Weatherford; her brothers, Richard Weatherford and St. Elmo Weatherford Jr.; and John, the beloved life partner of her daughter Tracey.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Lopez; her children, Susan Johnson (Mark), Tracey Spainhour, Kelli Phipps (Bobby), and Sean Lopez (Christie); her sisters, Marilyn Craig (Paul) and Linda Robinson (Jimmy); her grandchildren, Shanen, Ryan, Patrick, Jessica, Thamer, Maggi, and Blaze; and her six great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service to honor and celebrate Delores’s life at 3:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation James Island. Her final arrangements were carried out with love and respect, in keeping with her wishes.
