Dorothy Lindsay

Dorothy Lindsay, 97, of Charleston, SC passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Born on October 27, 1926 in Nashville, GA she was the daughter of the late Mary Lou Renfroe Luke and the late Claude Allen Luke.

Dottie graduated from the first graduating class of Florida State University, originally Florida State College for Women, in 1947.  She started her career working for the Dean of Sports at Florida State University.  She met and married the love of her life, Lt. Commander Reisner Lindsay in 1951.   They traveled with the military to places such as Japan, Foley, Alabama, Columbia, South Carolina, and settled in Charleston, South Carolina.  Dottie retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.  She loved making her chocolate chip cookies for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Reisner Clayton Lindsay; her brothers, Claude Jr. and Donald; and her sister, Marge.

Dorothy is survived by her son, John Clayton Lindsay and his wife Beth of Cottageville, SC; her grandson, Zachary Clayton Lindsay and his wife Bianca of Ravenel, SC; her granddaughter, Katie Elizabeth Erickson and her husband Tyler of Santa Rita, Guam; her great-grandson, Oz John Lindsay of Ravenel, SC; her granddaughter-in-law, Tal Arviv Elmakias, Oz's mother, of Charleston, SC; great nephew, Austin Adam Hanold of Odessa, FL; and sister-in-law Patricia Luke of Rancho Murieta, CA.  She was also loved by her "girls", Pat, Shirley, Violet, Scarlett, Carole, Pam, Carolyn, Beth, and Linda.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 2:00pm-4:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Chapel, 869 St. James Ave., Goose Creek, SC 29445.

The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Animal Society.
