Evelyn Jean Brannon Howell, 90, of Goose Creek, SC passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, VA on July 21st, 2025 with her children by her side.
Eve was born in Greenville, NC on March 4th, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Lula Mae Brannon.Eve was proceeded in death by both of her parents, her husband of 65 years Delbert L. Howell Sr, her son Delbert L. Howell Jr, 2 brothers W.L. Brannon and Earnest Brannon, and 2 sisters Beulah Conerly and Mary Lou Harris.
She is survived by her children: E. JoAnne Huckstep of Goose Creek, SC; E. Joyce Crosby (Stephen) of Goose Creek, SC; David L. Howell (Susan) of Virginia Beach, VA; and E. Joy Ackerman of Goose Creek, SC. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Debbie Howell of Canton, IL; her brother, Tony Brannon of Ayden, NC; and her sister, Carol Dean Adams of Ayden, NC. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Eve married Delbert L. Howell, Sr. on May 9, 1953, and embraced the life of a Navy wife. Together, they lived in various duty stations, eventually settling in Charleston, SC. In 1961, they made Goose Creek their home. Eve worked at Men-Riv Elementary School, where she touched many lives before retiring in 1997.
She loved spending time with her family. Her home was always open as she welcomed loved ones for every occasion. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading, completing word search puzzles, and watching golf and NFL football. Eve was also active in her community. She served as a Cub Scout leader and was a proud member of the John L. Flynn Chapter 277 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She and Del loved to travel, they visited 49 states together and many of them more than once! She finally visited Hawaii, her 50th state, to attend her granddaughter Shannon's wedding!
She embraced a vibrant, fulfilling life and valued her family and friends deeply!
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation in Goose Creek. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Goose Creek Masonic Lodge, 145 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
