Fain Ravenel Kapeluck of Charleston passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, July 31, at the age of 76. Fain was born on August 13, 1949, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Theodore DuBose "Binks" Ravenel III and Mary Virginia "Sis" Cravens Ravenel Paine.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Elementary Education. Fain spent much of her career at East End Elementary School in Easley, South Carolina, teaching fourth- and fifth-graders. In 2000, she graduated from Clemson with an M.A. in Elementary Guidance and Counseling and became a guidance counselor at McKissick Elementary in Easley. Fain was much loved at that school by students and teachers alike. She was truly devoted to her students and would regularly get letters from her past students, which she loved. She often visited her students at home before the holidays to make sure everything was okay. In retirement, she worked at Judge Keller's in Clemson and later kept herself busy manning the cash register at the Food Lion at Edisto Beach.

Fain was in the choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia and later in life at Trinity Church on Edisto Island. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She was also active in the Junior League and Colonial Dames in Columbia.

Fain was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her favorite times were seining in Store Creek at Edisto and family reunions in Sewanee, Tennessee. There was never a dull moment with her. One time in particular stands out, when she accidentally caused the dryer to catch fire at the beach house, and the fire department showed up in force.

She was predeceased by her husband of forty-one years, Peter Randolph Kapeluck; her parents; two brothers, Branwell Bennett Ravenel and Duval Cravens Ravenel; and her sister-in-law, Cheryl Adair Ravenel (Ted). Surviving are two sons, Branwell DuBose Kapeluck (Anne) of Charleston and Peter Randolph Kapeluck (Lauren) of Daphne, Alabama; and her daughter, Fain Kapeluck Buete (Gary) of Wake Forest, North Carolina. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Joseph Buete (Harper) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Will Buete of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Florence Buete Kane (Whit) of Calabasas, California; Eliza Kapeluck of Seabrook, South Carolina; Branwell Kapeluck, Cravens Kapeluck, and Rainey Kapeluck, all of Charleston; Sam Kapeluck and Lily Kapeluck, both of Daphne, Alabama; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Ravenel (Cravens) of Columbia and Deborah Mulcahy (Kevin) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two brothers-in-law, Mark Kapeluck (Karen) of Arlington, Virginia, and Timothy Kapeluck (Jamey) of Shokan, New York.

Fain was a wonderful wife and mother to her family and a friend to all. She will be missed. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 22, at two in the afternoon at Church of the Holy Cross in Stateburg, South Carolina.
