Mr. Felipe Quejado Valdriz, 83, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
A devoted husband, father, and Lolo, Felipe was born on April 11, 1942, in Taboc, a village in the La Union Province of the Philippines. He was the eldest son of the late Isabel and Mariano Valdriz. Growing up in a beach town, his childhood was filled with picking sweet mangos, climbing coconut trees, playing on the shore, and swimming with his siblings and cousins. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the ocean—fishing, crabbing, and shrimping—and even perfected the art of weaving cast nets by hand.
Felipe graduated as Salutatorian from St. Mary of the Sea Academy and attended Far Eastern University for two years, where he studied accountancy. In 1964, he joined the United States Navy, serving as a Culinary Specialist throughout his naval career. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Purificacion Liquicia, whom he had known since the age of 15. His final naval assignment was aboard the USS Moosbrugger, stationed at the Charleston Naval Base.
For more than fifty years, Felipe and his wife made their home in Goose Creek, South Carolina, where he continued serving the U.S. government as a civil servant. He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Catholic Church. Felipe’s love language was gifts and acts of service, with cooking and baking as his greatest expressions of love. His masterful storytelling about life events always entertained his audience. Family and friends enjoyed a constant supply of freshly made egg rolls, ensaymada, pandesal, and siopao. Felipe loved his backyard garden, which he filled with his favorite Filipino vegetables. He enjoyed fishing and shrimping on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and Bulls Bay. While shrimping, he skillfully cast nets of various sizes—each one lovingly and meticulously made by hand. In his later years, Felipe especially cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and many dear and faithful friends.
Felipe was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Adelaida Valdriz Amita. He is survived by his beloved wife, Purificacion Liquicia; his daughter, Liza Valdriz (Paul) Morris; his sons, Lawrence Valdriz and Lydell (Susana) Valdriz; his grandsons, Sterling Robertson, Dominic Valdriz, and Apollo Valdriz; and his siblings, Modesto Valdriz, Cristita Valdriz and Jovita Chavez.
The family will receive friends and hold a Catholic blessing on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek. Friends and family are also invited to Felipe’s Celebration of Life at Momo’s at Crowfield Golf Club, 300 Hamlet Circle, Goose Creek.
