Gerald Raymond "Jerry" Knight, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on November 19, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on February 6, 1945, to the late Eula Evelyn (Holland) Knight and Paul Knight, Jerry's warmth and spirit would shine brightly throughout his life.
Jerry was a loving father, faithful brother, and proud parent to his daughter Nancy. He was also a steadfast companion to his faithful dog, Rascal. Their walks together in James Island County Park were not just strolls; they were moments of joy and connection that showed Jerry's love for life and nature.
Jerry's dedication extended beyond family; he served honorably in both the Army and Coast Guard, with unwavering commitment to his country. This sense of duty carried through to his career at Miami Dade Water and Sewer, where he dedicated over two decades of service. Coworkers and friends alike remember him as a person of integrity, who always made time to lend a helping hand or share a listening ear.
His life was enriched by the countless bonds formed with his family, particularly his eight brothers and two sisters. The Knight family reunions, held every two years, were a testament to the love and camaraderie that defined their connection. These gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and the unwavering bond that a large family can generate.
Jerry had many interests that reflected his generous and vibrant spirit. An avid collector of stamps, he found joy in the beauty of each piece, fishing was not just a hobby for him; it was a cherished pastime that brought peace and tranquility, often shared with loved ones. His cooking skills left many delighted, as he enjoyed cooking and blending flavors that brought people together around the table.
Jerry’s compassion extended to his community and he regularly donated to the ASPCA and St. Jude's Children's Hospital, demonstrating a heart that truly cared for others.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by, his sister Evelyn Davis; five brothers, Paul Knight, Jr., Ronald Knight, Robert Knight, Thomas Knight, and Michael Knight; and his beloved dog, Rascal.
Gerald is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Knight, sister, Patricia Manns, three brothers, Charles Knight (Mary), Larry Knight (Jennifer), and Donald Knight (Joyce), sister-in-law, Barbara Knight a.k.a. "The Knight Angel", and his lifelong friends Larry McCutchen and Jete McCutchen.
While Jerry will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, kindness, and passion for life will forever reside in the hearts of those he touched.

The family is planning services at a later date to include military honors at Beaufort National Cemetery.
