Glenda Carroll (Johnson) Newby entered her eternal rest on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Born in Vernon, Alabama, on January 18, 1944, to Milner D. Johnson and Kinis Barnes Johnson, Glenda lived a life marked by faith, service, and love.
She graduated from Columbia Bible College, where she met Bruce Newby. The two married on January 10, 1970, and together they made South Carolina home, sharing more than five decades of devotion to one another, their family, and their community. As a pastor’s wife, Glenda gave generously of her time and heart, offering encouragement and kindness to countless others. She also dedicated many years of her career to Epworth Children’s Home, where her compassion touched the lives of many children and families.
Glenda was creative and poured her love into every detail of her work. She was known for her sewing, creating gifts for her family that will be treasured for generations. Fondly called “Grammy” and “Atchie”, she delighted in celebrating her loved ones as the family’s cake baker, crafting birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and other sweet creations for her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Newby; sister, Mary Sue Kitchens; children, Andrew Newby (Nicole) and Christie Newby Ausderau; grandchildren, Nathan and Madi Ausderau; niece, Paula Stephens (Jim); nephews, Tim and Tracy Brent (Jennifer) Kitchens; great-nieces and nephews, Judson Woodard, Sarah Hendricks, Rebekah Henderson, Maura West, and Addison Kitchens; and her beloved grandpups, Steinbeck, Prada, Darcy, and Wendell.
Glenda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her spirit endures through the family, friends, and community she so generously served throughout her life.
In celebration of Glenda’s life, the family requests that memorials be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, an organization working to advance research, innovation in treatments, and care for those living with this lung disease.
