Harold Joseph Quinn Jr.

Harold Joseph Quinn, Jr. passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born in Louisiana and was the oldest of three children of Dr. Harold and Mary Virginia Quinn. His early childhood involved many happy summers at Camp Mondamin in Western North Carolina. He graduated with honors from Shreveport's Jesuit St John's High School in 1950.

Harold attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year. He graduated in 1954 as captain of the successful College Quiz Bowl team and president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Some of his fondest memories were his college summers working at Lake Lodge in Yellowstone National Park, where he enjoyed playing guitar around the campfire and developed a lifelong love of reading and writing poetry.

Harold attended medical school at Tulane University, where he was elected to AOA. He then went to Philadelphia General Hospital for a general internship and completed an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at Barnes Hospital in St Louis. He returned to Shreveport and practiced as an ear, nose, and throat doctor until 1995 with a group that would become Pou, Quinn, Watkins, and Thornton.
Harold married Judy Crow (deceased) in 1965. They had three children together: the late David Quinn (Amy), John Quinn (Kristin), and Blair Quinn Purgerson (Jim).

He moved to Chapel Hill, NC, in 1996 and married the late Robin MacNicol in 1999. He later moved to Charleston, SC, where he received extraordinarily compassionate care from the good people at Bishop Gadsden assisted living facility.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Eliza, Margaret, Jack, Frances, and Laura; his sister, Margaret Quinn of Cincinnati, and is predeceased by his sister, Blair Evans (George); he is also survived by his niece and nephew Hensley (Jason), and Coulter (Julie).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Church of the Nativity in Charleston, SC.
