Irene Willimay Carrigan, 93 of Summerville, SC, passed away on January 22, 2023.
Born on May 18, 1929, in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Irene Grooms Vick and John Vick.
Irene was raised in the Charleston Orphanage from the age of 5 until she was 16. She loved to dance, and met her husband, Rod, at a dance at the AMVETS club. Irene loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family will remember her as a loving Mom, Granny and GG.
Besides her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her siblings, John N. Vick, Jr. and Mary Louise Small.
Irene is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roderick Carrigan; children: Joseph Almers, Edward Almers (Candace) and Marilyn Lighthart; grandchildren: John Lighthart, III; Edward Lighthart and Caroline Smallwood; great-grandchildren: John Lighthart, IV; Joseph Lighthart; Julianne Lighthart and Everett Lighthart and her brother, Stanley Schultz
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
