Jacob Thomas Holmes, III

Jacob "Jake" Thomas Holmes, III, 71, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Born on September 15, 1952 in Westminster, MD, he was the son of the late Doris Wallower Holmes and the late Jacob Thomas Holmes, II.

Jake worked at Stanley Black & Decker (B & D) for 35 years as a Design Engineer.  Following his career at B & D, he worked for Netzar Metalworks, designing parts for Boeing.  

Jake brought his enthusiasm and creativity to various church committees at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton, Maryland.  He was active in the town's little league and scouting programs.  He especially enjoyed serving on the town planning commission.  After retirement, he began a second career as an antiques dealer.  Once he moved to Charleston, he loved exploring his new community and photographing the wonderful wildlife and scenery.

Besides his parents, Jake is preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Holmes. 

Jake is survived by his loving wife, Claire, of 37 years; son, Jacob Holmes IV; daughter, Jacqueline Holmes; grandchildren: Johnathan, Ryan, Jade, and Madisyn; great granddaughter, Aurora; sister, Cherie Dininni and brother, Mark Holmes.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home of West Ashley.  A graveside service will be held Friday, September 29th at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
