It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jacob William Satterfield, 25 of Summerville, South Carolina. Jacob passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Jacob was born on July 16, 1999 in Atlanta, GA. He is the son of Tonya Harkins Satterfield and Carl Satterfield.
Jacob is a beloved son, brother and friend who left this world far too soon. Jacob’s journey was one of immense courage, love and complexity. Though his time with us was brief, his impact will be felt forever. Jacob was a gentle soul with a brilliant mind. From a young age, he had a natural affinity for computers, spending countless hours exploring their intricacies and marveling at the endless possibilities they offered. He was often given the task of helping his Mom navigate her computer and always did so with love and a few eye rolls about her lack of understanding of computers.
Jacob lived with Autism, a part of him that shaped his perspective and experiences. While it brought unique strengths and insights, it also brought challenges that at times felt insurmountable to Jacob. Despite Jacob’s incredible resilience and the unwavering support of those who love him, Jacob ultimately found himself in a battle he felt he could no longer fight. His decision to leave this world was not a reflection of weakness, but of the profound pain he carried with him that he could not find a way to fight.
Jacob and his big brother Trevor shared so many adventures together. From the moment Jacob was born, Trevor was there to protect him like only a big brother can do. They spent their childhood playing with their best friends Tanner Bridgeforth and Nelson Sutton. They were always thinking of new things to do to entertain themselves. Our yard was full of skate ramps, dirt bike and four wheeler trails and anything else their young imagination could come up with. Summers spent floating down the river, at amusement parks and water parks and winters spent playing in the snow, learning how to ski, watching movies. Everyday was a new adventure with a house full of boys and a home full of love.
As we say goodbye to Jacob on earth, we hold onto the memories of his gentle spirit, his brilliant mind and his boundless love. We honor his life by continuing to advocate for understanding, acceptance, and support for those who navigate the world with Autism and mental health challenges. Jacob’s story is a reminder that even the brightest lights can flicker, and it is our responsibility to ensure that no one decides it’s time to let that light go out forever due to the actions of bullies and uncaring people.
Jacob is preceded in death by his baby brother Quinton Satterfield, grandmothers, Polly Harkins and Myrtle Flowers, his grandfather Carl Satterfield, and uncle Tommy Harkins.
Jacob is survived by his parents Carl and Tonya Satterfield, brother Trevor Satterfield, aunts Tammie and Bobby Champe, Rita Harkins, Venus Wilson, Tina Cunningham. Aunt Marilyn and Mike Howle, aunt Janice and Al Britt, uncles Paul and Wanda Harkins, Joe and Julie Harkins and many loving cousins, friends and other family members.
An Eternal Reefs memorial will be announced in the future for those who are interested in coming.
