Listen to Obituary

James Patrick Hannifin Sr., affectionately known by family and friends as Dude, 84, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Born on May 12, 1941, in Wyandotte, MI, James was the son of the late Marjorie Abernathy Hannifin and the late Francis Hannifin.

James graduated from Stanley High School in Stanley NC. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Air Force Action Pistol team. He graduated from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, where he ran cross country. James married Linda Hager and lived in Charleston SC together until her passing in 1988. James remarried in 1997 to Eunice Ann Wheeler. James was a member of Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church. James spent the majority of his professional career in Industrial Sales in the Charleston area. An avid reader, James’s interests varied widely. From fiction, military history, to the self-improvement realm. Dude loved to stay in shape and share advice about health and nutrition. He enjoyed doing DIY projects such as home improvement, or cars. He was always willing to share what he learned with others, as much as he was willing to learn from others himself. James loved God, his family, and his country. He had many friends, those that lasted a lifetime, to neighbors young and old. James made an impression on everyone he met. He had a way of making others feel important.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hannifin (Becky).

James is survived by his wife, Eunice Ann Hannifin; sons: James Hannifin, Jr (Karen), Brian Hannifin, and Richard Wheeler (Sheryl); daughters, Leslie Hannifin and Katherine Wheeler (Dave); niece Paige Hannifin Frakes; nephew Rob Hannifin (Dana); grandchildren Brianna Hobbs (Cody), Jacob Hannifin, Abigail Hannifin, Shawn Wheeler, Noah Wheeler, Jaime Estok, Brian Hannifin Jr, James Hannifin, and Joshua Hannifin; great grandchild Austin Hobbs.
