Jamie Beall Dowdy, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026, after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Born on October 15, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, Jamie was the daughter of the late Otho Lyndon Beall and Bonnie Fountain Beall.

At the time of Jamie’s birth, her father was serving in the United States Air Force, and the family lived in several locations, including France, Okinawa, Nevada, and Fayetteville. After his retirement from the military, the family settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where Jamie graduated from Briarcliff High School.

Jamie worked for Hardaway Construction for several years in multiple locations. She later lived in Alaska for 14 years before retiring from the Copper River Housing Authority. As her health declined, she returned to the East Coast to be closer to family. Until she was no longer able, Jamie enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, and photography. She was also an avid fan of professional golf, collegiate football, and the National Football League.

Jamie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Patrick Ely of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; her grandsons, Cameron Rhodes Ely, BM3, United States Coast Guard and Jackson Tucker Ely of Mount Pleasant; her sister, Marnie Beall Porterfield of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Lisa Lovett Beall of Eatonton, Georgia; and her nieces, Brooke Porterfield Doucette and Brittany Porterfield Jones, both of Rome, Georgia.

She is also survived by cousins, Terri Jowers of Williston, South Carolina; Kenny Jowers of Point Arena, California; Charles Butler of Powder Springs, Georgia; John C. Howren of Asheville, North Carolina; and Karen Fountain Enoch of Monoville, Tennessee.

Jamie was preceded in death by her parents, Otho Lyndon Beall and Bonnie Fountain Beall; her sister, Patricia “Patsy” Beall Brooks; her twin brother, James Lyndon “Jim” Beall; her grandparents, Walter Jackson Fountain and Clancie Verner Fountain; and numerous cousins.

For the final nine months of her life, Jamie was a hospice patient, supported by multiple care and support teams who helped fulfill her wish to remain at home and pass peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to LaTasha Peppers, Personal Care Assistant; the team at Agape Hospice, including her hospice nurses Jenn Manigault, Ashley Andersen, and Savannah Kimsel; McLeod Home Care of Charleston, including Acee Briley, Laurianne McKoy, Rose Stewart, Aszeria Vanderhorst, and Christine L’Abbate; CareLink, including Audrey and John; and Mason and the staff at Publix Pharmacy, Point Hope.
