A memorial service for Janice Elaine Adkins Sligh will be held on Sunday, March 8, at 3:00 p.m., in the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Chapel at 200 State Street, West Columbia. The Reverend Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate. The family will greet visitors from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the chapel.
Janice passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Columbia, SC, on February 21, 1969, to Joseph Boyd Adkins and Judy Elaine Hodges Adkins. Janice attended school in West Columbia and graduated from Airport High School. She also attended Midlands Technical College. Janice was the owner of Good As New in Lexington for 28 years.
Janice enjoyed gardening, staying out on the lake, and advocating for children. Her passion was her shop from which she helped so many people who came through there. She was a member of South Congaree Baptist Church for which her grandmother donated property.
Janice is survived by her husband, Larry Sligh, Jr., her daughters, Amber Sligh, and Chrissy Sligh and her sons, Brandon Sligh and Chase Adkins, all of Lexington. She has four grandchildren, Kingston Sligh, Xena Sligh, Remi Sligh and Roux Sligh, all of Lexington. Janice is also survived by her mother Judy Hodges Adkins of West Columbia and her siblings, Juanita Hartley of West Columbia, Julia Harper (John Harper) of Cayce, Joseph B. Adkins, Jr. (Wendy Adkins) of West Columbia, Benjamin Caraway of West Columbia, and Martha R. Adkins of West Columbia, along with many cousins whom she adored.
Janice was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Rev. Charles R. Adkins; paternal grandmother, Martha R. Shumpert; father, Joseph B. Adkins, Sr.; Margaret Hodges Talbott maternal Al Talbott, brother-in-law, Albert Hartley, and nephew and godchild, Jake Harper.
