John Wiley Braziel, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with diabetes and heart issues. Born on February 14, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, John was a man whose spirit and kindness touched everyone around him, leaving a legacy of love and compassion.

John was the cherished son of James Braziel and Virginia Albright, both of whom predeceased him, along with his brother, Rick Braziel. He is survived by his devoted child, John Harris Braziel(Aleta), and his three treasured grandchildren, Lincoln Theodore Braziel, Tess Arwen Braziel, and Spencer Wayne Braziel. John also leaves behind his siblings, Chuck Braziel(Julie) and Dawn Butler, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who shared in the joys and challenges of his life.

A proud graduate of Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama, class of 1970, John pursued higher education at Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) in Columbia, South Carolina. His thirst for knowledge and passion for service saw him return to academia in later years, earning a degree in Business and a Master's of Divinity in the early 2000s.

John spent his early career as a dedicated salesman, but his true calling emerged when he joined the Oliver Gospel Mission in Columbia, SC. For 15 years, he served his community with unwavering commitment, facilitating life-changing Bible studies and offering hope to homeless men seeking new paths.

An active member of Grace Church in Columbia, SC, John embraced his faith with sincerity and joy. His love for music, particularly his talent for singing and playing guitar, was a constant throughout his life. Whether performing in bands during his youth in Huntsville or leading worship in church, music was his sanctuary and a gift he generously shared.

John was a diehard Alabama Football fan, never missing a game and proudly cheering "Roll Tide." He was an avid reader, with a special interest in true crime, science fiction, and biblical studies. A devoted cinephile, he relished his time spent watching films and visiting movie theaters.

Known for his warm heart, listening ear, and infectious humor, John's presence brightened any room. He was a humble man who led a simple life, always ready with a "Dad Joke" and a helping hand for those in need.

A service to honor John's life will be held on October 29, 2026, at 5:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, located at 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC, 29169.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission, in memory of John's work with this community and in support of men facing hardships.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Lexington Medical Center & Prisma Health, Edisto Post Acute in Orangeburg, SC, and Agape Hospice for their compassionate care during John's final days. Special thanks are also given to Darrel and Iris McKinney for their generosity and to the friends and family whose love and support enriched John's life.

John will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
