John Andrew Bridges, III

John Andrew Bridges III, 88, of James Island, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Andrew was born on May 20, 1937, in Charleston, SC the son of the late Alberta Lorentia (Shriver) Bridges and John Andrew Bridges, Jr.

Andrew was an avid golfer and loved going bowling many years ago. He coached the Junior Varsity football team at Bishop England High School. He and his wife were devoted animal lovers.

Andrew is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alberta Bridges, Jr. and sister, Linda Diane Bridges.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene Poupalos Bridges and sister, Mary Bridges Ridel, and his beloved cat, Van Gogh.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Animal Society.
