John Burts Bryant, Jr., 66, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, July 6, 2026.
Born on a warm September 16th in 1959, in Columbia, South Carolina. Burts had a deep passion for cooking up a storm, enjoying sunny drives with the sunroof open, and creating the perfect customized sushi roll. He loved spending days at the beaches of South Carolina, often coming home as red as a lobster. Burts will be remembered for his infectious laughter, love for all animals, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the joy he found in bringing people together over a shared meal.
No dish was off limits in his kitchen; he would experiment and was up to any challenge. Burts even dared to make oyster stuffing, frog legs, and dishes from around the world. His love poured into each bite. His love for music included Norah Jones, Jason Mraz, and Dave Matthews Band, you could often hear him coming from down the road.
Burts completed his Bachelors at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina in 1981. He then went on to achieve a Master of Business from Owen School of Business at Vanderbilt University.
In addition to his parents, Burts is preceded in death by his younger sister Marianne Hope Bryant.
Burts is survived by his son, William Cramer Bryant (Caroline), his daughter, Laura Elizabeth Bryant (Nick), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for September of 2026, further details to be provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Life Recovery Center of the Nashville Rescue Mission. (https://nashvillerescuemission.org/services/life-recovery-program/)
