John N. Cordan, age 98, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Presbyterian Community in Lexington, South Carolina.
He was the widower of Mary Cordan. They shared 72 years of marriage together. He is survived by his two sons, James Cordan (Carol), of Chapin, SC and Thomas Cordan (Sara) of West Columbia, SC. Grandsons, Nicholas Cordan (Serena), Andrew Cordan (Kerry), and Zack Cordan. Two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, parents and two siblings, Katherine Wright and James Cordan of Pennsylvania.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Nicholas Cordan and Mary Kludo Cordan. Baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Following his graduation, he was musician in Tommy Dorsey’s Big Band Orchestra. He joined the US Navy during WWII. After the war, he was employed with Sears Roebuck Corporation in Charleston, SC for 40 years.
Following his retirement, he and Mary moved to Irmo, SC. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, music and gardening. After his retirement, he and Mary traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. He enjoyed volunteering in the community with various organizations.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of the Presbyterian Community of Lexington, SC, for their support and care during his stay.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Community Chapel, 700 Davega Drive, Lexington, SC, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A double inurnment will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a date and time to be announced. McAlister-Smith Funeral Home is in charge.
