Jonathan Wayne Womack,Sr. 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025

Born on October 4, 1952, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the son of Alvin Leslie Womack, Sr and Gloria Marjorie Halter.

Jonathan spent most of his life on James Island, with pluff mud between his toes and dirt roads to ride his bike upon. As a teen he was active in his church and served as narrator for the Chrismon Tree at Bethany United Methodist Church during the Advent Season. This exposure prompted him to consider a career in theology. After graduation from James Island High School in 1970, he was accepted for enrollment at Erskine College in Due West, SC. Within his first days as a freshman, a chance encounter at the campus post office led to him meeting the girl who would become the love of his life, leading to a union lasting fifty years and producing three wonderful children. After graduation, Jon became a specialist in computer programming, plying his trade at Berkeley Electric Co-Op, Trident Technical College, Charleston Naval Shipyard, then, ultimately, spending his remain years as a senior analyst at The Citadel. While at the Citadel, he was involved in several organizations associated with computer technology, eventually becoming president of the national HRS group after serving on the Board for many years. In addition to this work, Jon was active in his Masonic organization, after being raised to the level of Master Mason by his father, he worked his way through the chairs ultimately becoming Master of James Island #396 A.F.M. Jon was also Worthy Patron, alongside his wife, of James Island #284, O.E.S. Jon was affectionately called “the crow” by his family for his love of shiny objects; watches, gemstones, and coins. This love was superseded by his love of reading, resulting in a large collection of books representing multiple genres. As a lover of animals, especially German Shepherd dogs, Jon rescued and adopted many to give them a better life.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Marjorie Womack, his maternal grandparents, Henry and Jewel Halter, his paternal grandparents, A.J. and Rena Womack, his brother Steven Womack.

Jonathan is survived by his wife, Linda Dabney Womack, his children, Christine Marie, Jonathan Wayne, Jr, and Alexander Dabney.
