Joseph Christopher Hartnett

Joseph Christopher Hartnett, 46 of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Joe was born on December 27, 1978, in Charleston, SC, and was a son of Carolyn Sue (Coleman) Hartnett and Bernard Michael Hartnett, Jr.

Joe grew up on Sullivan’s Island attending Stella Maris Church and was a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 59 affiliated with the church, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1995. He was also an active member of the Order of the Arrow participating on Unali’Yi Lodge’s Native American dance team and was recognized with the Vigil Honor in 1994.

Joe attended Wando High School and started working on shrimp boats out of school. But his true calling was that of a mechanic – he could fix anything. He was the go-to guy in the neighborhood and beyond for everybody’s automotive and small-engine needs, and he always stayed busy fixing cars, lawnmowers, generators, and the like.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Breanna Hartnett; mother, Sue Hartnett; father, Mike Hartnett; brother, Michael Hartnett; and beloved labs Lucky and Roscoe.

A Rosary Service with Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 6:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pet Helpers Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic at 1447 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
