Joseph David Shaughnessy

Joseph David Shaughnessy, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Born on December 26, 1942, in Saint Louis, Missouri to Charles Michael Shaughnessy and Agnes Marie (Murray) Shaughnessy.

He graduated from Laboure High School and attended Central Missouri State University on a football scholarship, where he met his wife and started his family. Following a successful career in industrial chemical sales as a Vice President and General Manager, he devoted 15 years of service volunteering as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. His dedication to its mission of mercy for the poor and their communities helped transform many lives materially and spiritually.

Joe was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. There was never a stranger in the room because of Joe's warmth and kindness. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. He left behind a legacy of compassion that will live on in all of us. Though our hearts ache, we take solace in knowing his soul is at peace. We will forever hold him close in our hearts and memories. We ask that you remember his beautiful smile and passion for life.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Agnes Shaughnessy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Shaughnessy; daughters Christie (Michael) Shaughnessy Klingl, Tracy (Tim) McGrath ; son, Kevin (Sarah) Shaughnessy; seven grandchildren, Delaney, Egan, Regan, Declan, Aidan, Finn, Fiona, and one great-grandchild, Cole; his brother Greg Shaughnessy and sister Sheila Jacobsmeyer.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Christ our King, 1149 Russell Dr, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464. Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
