Julius Henry Prause, Sr, 83, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Emerald Nursing Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Julius was born July 23, 1938, to Edward and Doris Prause in Portsmouth City, Virginia, the oldest of two children. He graduated from Bishop England High School in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1957.
Julius met his beautiful bride and wife of 64 years, Jeanne Francis McClary, during high school, and they were later married in Charleston, South Carolina.
In 1960, Julius began his lifetime career working for Southern Railway, eventually moving to Asheville, North Carolina, and serving as a Road Foreman for Southern Railway (later becoming Norfolk Southern) for 19 years. Julius continued to work for Norfolk Southern for a total of 41 years until his retirement in 2001. Apart from working for the railroad, Julius enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved working on cars and building with his hands whenever he had the time.
He is survived by his children Mr. & Mrs. Julius Henry Prause, Jr. of Port St, Lucie, FL; Mr. & Mrs. Randolph Scott Prause, Sr. of Candler, NC and daughter Cheryl Prause Poole of Summerfield, NC.
Ten Grandchildren also survive him: Allison Blythe Prause of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Meghan Taylor Blair of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Randolph Scott Prause, Jr of Champaign, IL; Cameron Trey Nohren, Kyle Jackson Nohren, Nathan Carter Nohren, and Owen Kade Prause of Candler, NC; Trey Poole, Samantha Poole and James Poole of Summerfield, NC.
In addition, Julius was the proud Great-Grandfather of: Hunter Aiden Blair, Fischer James Blair, Chase Alan Blair, Grant Michael Blair & Coral Wynn Prause of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Ezekiel Ryan Prause, and Elias Dean Prause of Champaign, IL; Easton Jayce Nohren and Everleigh Mae Nohren of Candler, NC.
The family will receive friends on June 19 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
A funeral service will be held at Bethany Cemetery in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 20 at 10 AM.
