Kathy Leigh Wrenn, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on October 12, 2025.
Born on July 20, 1949 in Utica, New York, Kathy was the daughter of the late Mark Gibbs Galloway and Georgette Elaine Perryman. She grew up in Hillsdale, New Jersey, and attended Pascack Valley High School, where she was a cheerleader and worked at the local Dairy Queen. She went on to study graphic design at Ohio University.
After college, Kathy returned to New Jersey and held several positions in the retail industry, including managing a ski shop and working as a buyer for Andy Johns Outerwear. She eventually made Charleston, South Carolina her home, where she owned a consignment store. She met and married David Wrenn, and in 1991 they welcomed their daughter, Amey, who was Kathy’s greatest joy and the center of her world.
Kathy had an exceptional eye for design and loved creating beautiful, welcoming spaces. She loved to decorate and often refurbished or repurposed secondhand furniture, giving each piece new life. A lifelong admirer of music, theatre, and the arts, Kathy brought creativity and warmth to everything she did. She volunteered with the Charleston Wine + Food Festival and Reading Partners, a local literacy organization that pairs volunteers with students. Kathy cared deeply about public education and the difference it makes in children’s lives.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Georgette Galloway, and by her former husband, David Wrenn.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Amey Wrenn; her former partner and dear friend, Tom Rigsby; her sister, Meredith Kistner, and husband, Richard; her brother, Theodore Galloway, and wife, Karen; and her niece and nephew, Sara and Mark Galloway.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be planned in the coming months. Friends and loved ones will be invited to gather and honor her memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reading Partners South Carolina or the Gibbes Museum of Art, in honor of Kathy’s lifelong love of learning and the arts. Her creativity, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
