Lawrence Robert Roush, known to family and friends as Larry, was born on May 27, 1947, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to the late Evelyne Newbury Roush and the late Frank Roush. He lived a full and varied life defined by hard work, adventure, music, faith, and an entrepreneurial spirit. A man of many talents, Larry was a businessman, craftsman, musician, lifelong powerlifter, devoted husband and father, and active member of his community.

Before establishing his businesses and raising his family, Larry served six years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, with his service overlapping the Vietnam War. Although his unit was never called to active duty, this remained an important chapter in his life.

His entrepreneurial journey began with LR Well Drilling in Boynton Beach, Florida. In 1980, he moved with his family to North Florida, where he and his father built the log home in which he raised his children. More than a house, it became a welcoming gathering place filled with activity, adventure, laughter, and lasting memories for family and friends.

Larry's career reflected his resourcefulness and willingness to pursue new opportunities. He worked at Orange State and owned Roush Plumbing and Electrical, Roush Sprinkler Systems and Supplies, and Lake City Motorcycle. Through his sprinkler business, he also performed underground electrical work for subdivisions. He later worked for Interstate Electrical and Advent Christian Village before operating Roush Handyman Services.

Adventure and the outdoors were lifelong interests. In his younger years, Larry spent countless hours riding airboats through the Everglades, hunting, and camping. He was a member and president of the Palm Beach Airboat and Halftrack Club and continued to enjoy hunting, family vacations, and automobiles throughout his life. He also seemed to know the best places to eat wherever he went.

Motorcycles held a special place in Larry's heart. He loved cruising for miles with his wife riding behind him, and one of his greatest adventures was a motorcycle trip from Florida to Canada and back, lasting two to three weeks.

Music was another lifelong passion that Larry and his wife shared. His musical journey began in the school band, where he became a proficient tuba player before taking up the string bass. In high school, he also played in a rock-and-roll band. His remarkable voice could handle nearly any genre, and he delighted in imitating artists ranging from Alabama and Elvis Presley to Luciano Pavarotti.

Larry and his wife sang together, recorded a CD, and provided music for weddings and funerals. He also served as music director at First Baptist Church of Branford and First Presbyterian Church of Live Oak. Whether performing music, telling stories around a campfire, or entertaining family and friends with silly songs for hours, Larry had a gift for bringing people together and making them smile.

His Christian faith shaped the way he served others. In the early 1980s, he led the youth group at First Baptist Church of Branford, taking young people on adventures and creating lasting memories. A lifelong powerlifter, Larry performed feats of strength at schools, youth rallies, and churches. Often inviting audience members to participate, he used these demonstrations as opportunities to share his Christian testimony and sing, bringing together his remarkable strength, musical talent, and faith. His commitment to young people extended into the community, where he volunteered for several years with the Live Oak Police Department's Teen Academy.

Above all, Larry and his wife, Susan, shared a remarkable life together. Married for 58 years, they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in October 2026. Together, they built a life filled with family, music, travel, and adventure.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, music, adventure, and love. He will be remembered not only for his many talents and accomplishments, but also for his humor, his stories, his generous spirit, and the countless memories he created with the people he loved.
