Lawrence Dalton Mitchell (Larry), 96 passed away on April 12th, 2026, at his home in Cayce, SC. Larry was born on November 4th, 1929, in Reno Georgia, to Carl and Nora Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with one brother and three sisters.

Larry is survived by his wife of 69 years, JoAnn Mitchell, and two daughters Cathy (Pedro) Rosario of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Kim Dills of Hanahan, South Carolina. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Sloane (Chad) Chinners, Andy Rosario, Nicholas (Rachel) Rosario, and Conor (Katie) Dills, and six great grandchildren. He has one surviving brother, Gene, and one surviving sister, Julie.

Following graduation from high school, Larry joined the Navy and served in the Korean War. After completion of his Naval service, he entered Georgia Tech and graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He began a career with Eastman Kodak in 1958 in Kingsport, Tennessee; he transferred to South Carolina in 1966 and retired in 1986.

Larry will be best remembered for his love of family and service to his community and beloved church, Cayce United Methodist Church. He volunteered with various organizations within his community and held several leadership roles while attending CUMC.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at CUMC on Monday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. An informal receiving of friends by the family will be held immediately following the service. Per Larry’s wishes, a burial service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 3:00 p.m..
